MY STORY - AN ADVENTUROUS LIFE!

I have worked for over seven as senior staff writer, occasional editor, and resident tech and VPN industry expert at ProPrivacy (formerly BestVPN.com). This position allowed me to combine writing talents honed by a degree in philosophy with expertise and love of computer technology, together with a keen (and often outspoken) interest in contemporary politics.

ProPrivacy and I have parted ways, and I am now keen to put the skills, knowledge, and experience I gained there to good use.  

I have been widely quoted on issues relating cybersecurity and digital privacy in both the UK national press (including the BBC, The Independent, and the Daily Mail Online), and by international technology publications such as Ars Technica. In 2017, I was invited by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) to participate as a host in online discussions about net neutrality.

On my thirteenth birthday, I was given a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k, which quickly became the love of my life. After such early exposure to the wonders of technology at the dawn of the home computer revolution, I have always owned the most cutting-edge computer my often limited funds could afford. In 1994, I was the only person I knew with a home internet connection.

Rivaling this early love of technology was my love of books and writing, which led me to study philosophy and political ethics at university. As an adult, I have lived a somewhat adventurous life.

I taught English as a foreign language in various exotic locations around the world, including Hong Kong and Vietnam, have run my own web design business (Arachnophilia - “We Love to Spin Webs”) in the UK, and worked as a computer repair technician, system builder, and personal computer tutor in southern Spain.

I also worked as a qualified sound engineer and event manager based in Barcelona but involved with organizing and running contemporary dance events throughout Europe.

I have now settled down in Plymouth, UK, with my beautiful teacher partner and two over-exuberant young children. This has given me the opportunity to successfully pursue a life-long dream to work as a professional writer and technology journalist.
